Different Voices

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God." (Colossians 3:16)

Different VoicesThis is a space for anything and everything to do with church music. It is for musicians, ministers, members of congregations, and those on the edge of church life. It is for those who like traditional hymns, those who like the most modern worship music, and everything in between. It is for everyone from absolute beginners through to experienced professionals. However you are involved in music in your local community, we hope there is something here for you.

How it works

The content is organised in a number of different ways.

  • Musical genre. The more traditional style of church music based around organ and choirs is found in classical. If you are looking for music with a pop/rock/jazz influence then look in contemporary. Music used outside of worship or connected to the Iona/Taize/world styles is under community. And our last section features anything to do with children
  • Resource type. There are number of sections which provide different arrangements of hymns (easy keyboard, instrumental arrangements, organ last verses and descants, sol-fa). The new music section is where we feature music written in a wide range of styles by people based in Scotland. And if you are looking to develop your skills as a church musician then have a look at our video tutorials page.

Keeping up-to-date

As well as browsing on this site there are a couple of ways you can stay up-to-date with new content. Use the form on the left hand side of this page to sign up for monthly email updates. We also post new articles weekly on the Church of Scotland blog.

Get involved

This isn't just a place where people can come to find things, but also where people can resource each other. We want to hear from people across the church who have ideas and resources to share. Whether you have an exciting project which might inspire other congregations or have written resources you think might be useful to others then please get in touch through the contact form or by email.
